Trust Starts When Motion Starts

I trust myself. As in: put a chocolate bar in front of me and, sooner rather than later, I’ll take a bite.

I trust the world. As in: put me in front of the world and, sooner rather than later, the world will take a bite.

But neither of those is about me, or the world, or the chocolate, or trust. That’s just common sense — knowledge of the basics. A static picture. A still life.

Trust has nothing to do with a still life. Trust starts when motion starts — when volition enters, when intention is revealed.

By now I trust myself to discover how the second kilometer feels today. I trust the process of fermentation, because I’ve started it and monitored it and retarded it so many times. And yes, I even trust myself not to reach for the chocolate bar while grocery shopping.

If you want to regain trust in yourself and the world, get moving.
